Day 12

General overview

Negotiators in Cancun must incorporate the perspectives of developing countries, indigenous communities, women, children and workers unions into agreements reached on the final day of the COP16/CMP6 summit, environment officials said at a high-level plenary session on Friday. Central American leaders in particular noted that the tropical region needs concrete measures on global warming to come out of the conference.

The Declaration on Climate Change from the National Advisory Council for Sustainable Development was presented at the Mexico Pavilion, at Cancunmesse venue. The statement indicates the position of the Advisory Council to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change. The role of civil society and advisory councils lies in the promotion that this sector gives to the international mechanisms for mitigation, such as Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Degradation (REDD).

The documentary entitled Pueblos Unidos (United Peoples) was the winner of the Environmental Film Summit. This was announced tonight at the Museum Mexico in your Senses, located in the Climate Change Village in Cancun, Mexico. This documentary was the last guest of the day, an event  that night after night presented to activists and individuals with recognition worldwide, concerned for the environment. The purpose of this film is to raise awareness to factories of any kind, to take the necessary remedial measures to avoid polluting the planet.

Climate Conference COP16/CMP6 came to an end and thus the dismantling of stands started at the Cancunmesse venue. COP16 reached the objective of being a zero-emissions Conference. Doctor José Antonio Ordóñez Díaz, Co-Director of Climate Change of Pro-Natura was responsible for the project, and today he helped dismantling his stand, as did all other representatives for the participating organizations.

Cancunmesse sees off the participants of COP16, leaving a good taste in the mouth of every visitor.

Delegations participating in the 16th Conference of the Parties received from the Secretariat a draft of the agreements reached up to this moment so that ministers can accelerate negotiations, informed Ambassador Patricia Espinosa Cantellano, President of the COP16.
